Fight Like A Girl: Powerful Women in Martial Arts
“A woman must be a domestic goddess, raise her children and be feminine. Women shouldn’t compete in MMA because this sport is for men.” - Fedor Emelianenko, MMA fighter.
Martial Arts has taken the world by storm. Like most other sports, Martial Arts have always been a male dominated field, but the rise of powerhouse female fighters like Ronda Rousey, Gina Carano and Cat Zingano has led to a rise in awareness of women in the sport. Join us for a panel discussion featuring prominent female Martial Artists in Singapore, where you will hear their stories of how this has not only empowered them, but how it has allowed them to fight the narrative that sports, particularly Martial Arts, are only for men.
Celebrating women in traditionally male dominated fields challenges gender stereotypes and institutional violence and is in line with our Help Anna campaign.
